This week’s meeting promises to be a good one. Ellis Elkins will be talking to us a bit about using Flash’s built-in displacement maps & some other neat visual effects.

Then, John Lindquist will be continuing his intro to Papervision3D, from where he left off at last week’s UDFUG meeting.

We’ll be covering two things:

1. Importing materials from a .fla library to map to 3d objects
2. Importing 3d models from 3ds max

Just a quick reminder for tonight’s meeting. Scott Stoddard of SpiritOnin.com will be speaking to us about his game development experience with Flash. This should be a good meeting, so don’t miss it if you’re interested in developing games for Flash.

As usual, we’ll be meeting at 6:00 PM, at the mediaRAIN offices in Orem.

Within the family of Flash CS3, Flex 2/3 and the Flash 9 player, there is an abundant amount of ways to deal with data, both local and remote. Making the right decision as far as what technologies to use can make pinnacle difference in the success of your application. On Thursday’s meeting, we will have an open forum to discuss what options are available and what have proven to work best. This is everybody’s chance to teach and learn. Bring your solutions on how you deal with these different areas:

· Displaying Data (What components do you use or have challenges with?)

· Managing Data (XML, JSON, Array Collections, etc: What have you found works best?)

· Sending and Receiving Remote Data (PHP, ASP, Remoting, etc: What server technology do you use, and in what format do you send it in?)

· Sending and Retrieving Local Data (Shared Objects, Local Connection, External Interface, Zinc, Apollo: What do you use?)

· Alternative AS3 Options (GZip, AMF3, Zip Archives: What are some of the new AS3 formats you have chosen to use to distribute data?)

The meeting will be held this Thursday at the MediaRain office at 6:00 – 8:00 pm.

Quick reminder - this week’s meeting is Thursday, April 26.

We’ll be getting an intro to developing Apollo applications, and be able to see a few examples of Apollo apps as well. Also, if you have made any Apollo apps that you’d like to show off, bring them in.

I know, I know… sounding like a broken record here, but Adobe CS3 is coming soon… VERY soon. Adobe will be making it’s official launch announcements today, and we’ll be having a meeting tonight to watch.

Adobe has launched it’s Creative Suite 3 pages already, and you can already start to read up on what’s going to be available.

Tonight we’ll be watching some presos on CS3 and how it’s going to improve your life, as well as be able to see some CS3 up close & personal. You’ll also have the chance to win a FREE copy of a CS3 suite of your choice! (Excluding the Master collection.) We’ll also have some food & other prizes, so be there!

So, once again, here’s the details:

Don’t forget - our big CS3 meeting is tomorrow - March 27, at 6:00PM.

We’ll be watching some presentations from Adobe about CS3, including info on new features, what’s available, and we’ll even be able to check out some of the new features first hand. It’s going to be great.

We’ll also be giving away some prizes, including a copy of CS3! Unfortunately, we won’t have a copy to place in your hands that night, but you’ll essentially be receiving a free preorder of CS3 - when it ships, your copy will ship for free.

Our next meeting is Thursday, February 22. We’ll be meeting at 6:00 PM at our usual spot in the mediaRAIN offices.

Our presentation will be on unit testing, using FlexUnit.

We’ll be recording this meeting, and giving away some prizes, however, to be eligible for the prizes, you’ll need to actually attend the meeting. Also, don’t forget that every meeting you attend is one more entry for our big software giveaway in June.

It’s been a while, but our next meeting will be held on December 13, 2006. We’ll be meeting at the mediaRAIN location.

This meeting will be a “Tips & Tricks” meeting. Everyone has more than a few little tips & tricks that they’ve learned or picked up through their Flash career, and this is a chance to share them with everyone. We want this to be a group participation meeting, so come prepared to share what you know. (Even if you don’t want to share anything, at least come to learn something new.) Remember, the more we share, the more we’ll take home. (Just like kindergarten treat day.)

We’ll be talking everything from bug workarounds and debugging techniques, to helpful classes and useful extensions and components. If you’ve got a helpful software application you just can’t develop without, tell us! Bring a list of books & websites that have saved your project. This meeting should be a lot of fun.
